The Los Angeles Times reports that Google is poised to push its corporate agenda which includes expanding high speed Internet access and what is known as network neutrality, so that companies can’t charge clients for faster delivery of their website content. That sounds reasonable – benefits everyone right? Keep in mind that last Fall, Google came within a whisper of a Justice Department antitrust lawsuit claiming the Internet giant was a monopoly. Keep in mind that Google CEO Eric Schmidt campaigned for Barack Obama and was on Obama’s transition team. Google executives and employees were top contributors to the Obama campaign as were the University of California, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Harvard University. So what? There’s no doubt that the Obama administration is committed to science and technology as part of innovation in America. But what about competition? Will the new system work just like the old system? We’re about to find out.
